The Dallas Street Choir began working on this music video in the fall of 2015. It took three trips to the sound studio, an entire day of filming, and many hours of editing to complete. The goal of this project is to show that while our members suffer from homelessness and severe disadvantage, they still have a voice and something to say. Please do not give up on us, as we have not given up on ourselves. We are homeless, not voiceless.
The Dallas Street Choir, a recognized 501C3 organization, was established in October 2014. Our mission is to provide a musical outlet for those experiencing homelessness and severe disadvantage. To date, over 800 individuals have attended at least one of our weekly rehearsals amassing more than 5,000 hours of cultural enrichment. In addition to presenting concerts at The Stewpot, a social service agency in downtown Dallas, the Dallas Street Choir has performed at the Winspear Opera House, the Dallas City Performance Hall, and the George W. Bush Presidential Library. We have performed alongside opera stars Frederica von Stade and Joyce DiDonato, composer Jake Heggie, former First Lady Laura Bush, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Perot and, in September 2016, the Dallas Street Choir performed for former mayor Laura Miller and current City of Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. The Dallas Street Choir is conducted by its founder, Dr. Jonathan Palant.
